Florence “Flossie” MacInnis
Little Narrows, Victoria County, NS
Florence “Flossie” MacInnis passed away peacefully at the Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck at the age of 91 on Friday, December 20th, 2024. Flossie was born on November 5th, 1933, at home on the MacMillan family farm in East Lake Ainslie.
She followed in the footsteps of her mother, Mary (MacMillan) MacAulay by becoming a teacher. She attended Normal College in Truro in 1951-52. She began her teaching in Estmere and continued on to Valley Mills and then taught in Little Narrows for many years. She finished out her outstanding career in Baddeck accumulating 37 years of teaching service. In that time, she was such a positive influence on her students, who she cherished dearly.
In 1957, she married the love of her life, John “Jackie” MacInnis. Together, they built their lives in Little Narrows. Their years together were filled with love for their children and grandchildren and their shared passion for horses, fishing on the Bras d’Or, camping at Pinehills with their beloved camping family, travelling and square dances with friends.
Flossie always gave herself to her family and friends, to her community and her church. She offered support in many ways to anyone in need whether it be a meal, transportation to an appointment or simply an ear to listen. It brought her joy to bring kindness and happiness to others. She was a member of the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Aid Society and a long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Flossie surrounded herself with an amazing circle of close friends. She was often the one to suggest a road trip to a concert, birthday party or ceilidh and would gather the ladies, picking up each one to ensure they could all go together.
Flossie is survived by her son, Barry (Theresa), Edmonton and her daughter, Wanda (Ian MacLean) and her incredibly cherished grandchildren, Amanda (Lori), Mitchell, Mya and Mason. She also leaves behind her sister, Janet Matheson, Fredericton; her sister-in-law, Jean MacAulay, Sydney River; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was pre-deceased by her birthfather, Henry Johnston and loving parents, Mary and Philip MacAulay; her loving husband of 43 years, Jackie MacInnis; her brother, Don MacAulay and grand-daughter, Abby MacLean.
Flossie’s family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Mom’s many caregivers over the years of her battle with Alzheimer’s and most recently her extended family of caregivers at Alderwood Rest Home that meant so much to us all in her final years.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 in Little Narrows Presbyterian Church, with reception to follow. Burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Flossie’s memory to the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
Flossie will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but we will cherish our lifetime of memories that will forever remain in our hearts and strive to be devoted to kindness to others the way she lived her life daily.
