Obituary for Lillian Martha (Clyke) Desmond
Sunrise: June 30, 1935 – Sunset: November 22, 2024
It is with deep sorrow and gratitude that we announce the passing of Mom, Lillian Martha Desmond, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 22, 2024, at Milford Haven Nursing Home Special Care in Guysborough. Mom was 89 years old.
Born on June 30, 1935, in Guysborough, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward (Eddie) and Ida (Day) Clyke.
Mom’s unwavering faith and devotion to God were at the heart of her life. A lifelong member of the Tracadie United Baptist Church, she also served with love in the Ladies Auxiliary. Her faith was reflected in her actions, as she opened her home to family, friends, and even strangers, always offering a warm welcome, a helping hand, and a comforting word. Mom was known for her hospitality, and there was always a cup of tea and a freshly baked treat waiting for anyone who entered her home. Her baking, especially her sweet treats, were legendary—whether it was biscuits, molasses cookies, cinnamon rolls, Mom’s kitchen was a place where love was always served.
Mom’s legacy of love and compassion will live on in her large and loving family. She is survived by her children: Lloyd (Edna), Shirley, Deloris, Mack, Connie, Gary, Delma (Leroy), Earl (Donna), Gail (Mischon), Tony (Marilyn), Terry, Shauna, Colleen (Paul), Berk (Sabrina), Wayne (Joy), Carlisa (Nyjah); her siblings; Earl (Quenta), Fraser, Dianne (Leo), Linda, and in law siblings; Joseph and Mary; as well as 41 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind Stepdaughter, Gloria, many nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply and special family friends; Brenda Johnson and John Paris, whom Mom loved like her own.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 71 years, Benjamin, her son Keith, and an infant son. Mom was also preceded in death by her foster parents, Charlie and Hattie Ashe, her sisters (Norma, Bessie, Annabelle and Maude)and brothers (Merle, Arthur, Cecil, Walton, Aubrey, Wilfred and Brian) along with granddaughter Carlita and great grandson Kaiden.
Known for her boundless love and selflessness, Mom instilled in all who knew her the importance of family, faith, and hard work. She often reminded us that “Family is not an important thing; it’s EVERYTHING.” Her legacy of love, strength, and devotion to those she held dear will continue to inspire us for generations.
Visitation will take place at Tracadie United Baptist Church, Highway 16, Monastery, on Friday, November 29th, 2024, from 2-4p.m and 7-9pm. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 30th, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Tracadie United Baptist Church, with Pastor Clara Jordan officiating, along with Lic. Riley, Reverend David Wheeler and Deacon Alonzo Reddick. Burial will follow at Sunnyview Cemetery.
