Obituary of Ethel Rhoda Murray
MURRAY, Ethel Rhoda - 89 of Portage Rd, Orangedale East, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2024, in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born in Estmere to Norman and Catherine (Gillis) MacLeod on November 27, 1934, she is survived by daughters, Lynn (John) and Lisa and sisters, Christene, Norma and Betty. She is predecded in death by her husband, Lewis; parents, Norman and Catherine; siblings, Malcolm, Fraser and Helen.
Ethel found her calling as a teacher, taking great joy out of her profession for 37 years, with not even a sick day, only a few weeks off for maternity leave over all those years! She loved impromptu visits and casually running into her former students- she truly fondly remembered each and every one! With her hearty laugh and radiant smile, Ethel always looked to the positive side of things with determined optimism.
She enjoyed a loving, dedicated marriage to her soulmate Lewis for many years and would often speak on how they never had angry words with each other and she never wondered just how much he loved her - two beautiful souls once again united!
Visitation will be in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh on Friday, August 23 from 2-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Little Narrows Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 24 at 11 a.m. with burial and reception to follow. Margie MacIntyre officiating.
We wish to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital and the Cardiac Ward at the Halifax Infirmary. The love and care she received at all three facilities was nothing short of amazing. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of one's choice.
