Obituary of Harold David Dort
Harold David Dort- age 90, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Dad was a free spirit, he lived life as a hard-working fisherman who was the Captain of his life, and left the boats at 86 years of age. He loved the land, ocean, nature, hunting, berry picking, having visits from his family and friends. His goal was to live out his days at his property in Cole Harbor, Guysborough County. Dad got his wish and we are so grateful for the Home Care workers and wonderful neighbor/friend/ Steve who gave him daily care. Dad was known as Relic in Cole Harbor; he was also a taxi driver, offshore fisherman, and an owner/operator/Captain during his lobster fishing career. His generosity to his family was always on his mind. He loved to watch wrestling as well as Coronation Street on tv. His weekends would be spent listening to Newfoundland music while sitting in his chair looking at his beautiful view of the harbor. Checkers with his homecare friends, and jokes with Steve, who kept him laughing.
Dad
You went to work each day at dawn
Returned as darkness fell
We didn’t know how tired you were
Or asked if all was well
Year end, year out you met our needs
Without complaint or woe
Today, we thank you from our hearts
Please know, we love you so
