Doreen Alexander deserved more appreciation than she was given credit for. She was a tireless volunteer in so many projects. She was the woman who spearheaded the tree planting in the town. When we lived in the town we called the beautiful crimson king maple that adorned our front lawn “the Doreen tree”. She was very involved in the planning of the centennial celebrations in town and I so well remember how proud we were of our historic dresses that we wore with pride. Gerry and I had tremendous respect for Doreen and r ember her fondly.

My sincerest condolences to you Brenda and Peter at the loss of your Mom. Doreen was a hard working and intelligent lady, who didn't back down when she had a project in mind. A project that would make life better for us all in the town of Port Hawkesbury. She was ahead of her time and I admired her greatly. RIP Doreen

I worked closely with Doreen during my tenure with the Town of Port Hawkesbury. She was one of the most hardworking Councillors of her time; working tirelessly for the concerns of the Town’s residents, particularly our seniors. If you wanted something done, Call Doreen! Come hell or high water, if it could be done, she had it done! It is thanks to her that the Town continues to add beautification projects, as it was her ‘baby’ from day one to make our small town a beautiful welcoming place to visit! She was not always business, as many a friendly chat we had in the office. She had a deep concern for the employees, and a great sense of humor. This continued even after she left Council, with many phone calls I received from her. She never lost her interest in our Town. She may not have known me when I last saw her in December, but I feel blessed to have had this short time with her. My sincere condolences to all Doreen’s family and friends, particularly to her steadfast friend, Barb MacIntyrre.

She was a woman with a vision and lead the way with her vision. She lead the beautification movement in the Town of Port Hawkesbury that continues to this day.She deserves recognition as a game changer, and I admired her determination to good for the Town,at the time, in an area , that wasn’t ‘t high on the priority list.I am sure that she appreciates the question. When is the best time to plant a tree? Answer:Twenty years ago.The next best time?Today. She new the answer and executed.
Condolences to the family of this great contributor to the Town. Many of the trees planted by her will be long standing after all of us alive today, will be long gone, standing in remembrance of her.

Doreen was an intelligent, warm, caring woman who worked hard for the town and for others. I had the greatest respect for her willingness to take risks and speak out for what she believed was right. She also had a great sense of humour which helped to balance out her passionate and determined efforts to make things right. My sincere condolences to Brenda and Peter. Your mother served us all well!
