Dort, Emily Elizabeth (McKeough) age 84, Canso, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the Canso Seaside Manor. Born in Linwood, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Carey) McKeough. She is also pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years, Lawrence Dort of Canso. She is survived by her son, Larry Dort, Truro; daughters, Lorna (Paul) Horne, Canso; and Irene Gagnon and Giselle Dort, Halifax; grandchildren, Glenn (Sarah) Horne, Antigonish; Amy Dort, Truro; Shawna Horne, Oxford; Jacob & Samuel Gagnon, Halifax; great-grandchildren, SJ, Aiden & Emily; and nieces and nephews. Emily was a loving wife, devoted mother, and caring grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an educator by profession and took pride in her work with students of all ages and abilities. Emily enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, even if it was just a few minutes on the phone, and showed a bit of her competitive side at the card table. With sharp whit, she shared many laughs with the people she loved. She was a devoted parishioner of Star of the Sea, regularly attending mass and volunteering for committees and events. Emily was always there to support her family and friends and provide a little push when it was required. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff of the Canso Seaside Manor for their care and compassion over the past year. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 121 School Street, Canso from 4 – 7 p.m., Sunday, April 24. Funeral mass will be at 11a.m. Monday, April 25 in Star of the Sea Church, Canso. Burial will follow in the Star of the Sea Cemetery. Masks are to be worn for the visitation and funeral mass. Donations may be made to Star of the Sea Church, P.O.
