I am heartbroken. Emily was my friend and my mentor when I started my teaching career. I have so many fond memories of her. I think of her every Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day was a week or so away and was in the middle of the week. I had said to Emily that I was sure I wouldn't get a card in the mail on Valentine's Day. (I meant from my boyfriend). She bet me lunch that I would. In true Emily style, I got a card in the mail on Valentine's Day from Emily. I brought in a nice lunch the next day!! I looked forward to exchanging Christmas cards and letters with her every year since I left Canso and later chatting on FB. I will miss her wit, her smile and her stories. Larry, Lorna, Irene and Giselle, we are so heartbroken Mrs D's passing. Loyal, true friends are hard to come by and Emily was the best. Both she and Mr D were loved by our family and honored us by being Sarah's Godparents. I'll miss the phone calls and visits. I called her the "Queen of the Manor" as I saw how she interacted with staff and they with her! Her greatest fear was Covid and I know that the good Lord did not let her suffer long one it was confirmed. Please accept our sincerest sympathy and know she will never be forgotten!

Lorna, Larry, Giselle, Irene and all members of Emily's family, I want to extend my most sincere condolences for your loss. Your mom was my godmother and I always felt a special bond to her both for that reason and because I simply loved her dry sense of humour, her ability to see and cut through the bs, and her acceptance of others decisions to walk their own path. As a little girl I loved when she and your dad came to visit my parents. Our house came alive with laughter and the joy that only comes from sharing good food, meaningful friendships, and the same values. I am so sad that I won't get to visit with her this summer but I am very grateful for the conversations, the laughter and even the tears we shared. She will always have a special place in my heart.

I wanted to say how very sorry I am for your loss. Emily was a huge light in my week when i was visiting her at the Pines Manor. Emily was a fine woman, with a comedic humour that came out when you least expected it. Emily was very kind to me and always asked about my kids and husband.
