MacDonald, Earl Oswald of Orangedale, Cape Breton.It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Earl Oswald Mac Donald, age 87 on Thursday, January 16, 2020, in the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Earl was born June 21, 1932 in Sydney, CB; he was a son of the late John Angus and Sarah Jane Mac Donald (Mac Lean), Orangedale.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 35 years, Kathleen (Campbell) Mac Donald; son, Allan Earl Mac Donald (Rosalie), New Minas; son, Carl Sidney, at home; granddaughter, Melanie Christina (Paul McCulloch) and step great-grandson, Ian McCulloch, Toronto, ON. Earl is also survived by nieces, Nancy Mac Donald, Halifax; Janis Mac Donald, Inverness; and nephews, John Mac Donald, Halifax and Jackie Mac Donald, Orangedale; and special friends Janet and Jim, Toronto. In addition to many special friends and relatives, Earl is survived by special fur friend, Mitzi and grand fur puppies, Seasca and Diggity. Earl was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie "Queenie" Richards; brothers and their wives, John Allan (Marjorie) and Sidney Grant (Carolyn) Mac Donald, and nephew, Randy Mac Donald.
Earl spent 37 + years with the CNR as a Telegrapher in Inverness, Musquodoboit, and Orangedale and other places in NS. He was a life long member and Honorary Elder of the Orangedale United Church until its closing and transferred his membership to Forbes United Church, River Denys. For many years he was treasurer of the Orangedale United Church. He was a Founding member of the Orangedale Improvement Society, Treasurer and Member of the Orangedale Water Society, and member of the Orangedale Station Association. Earl loved fine fiddle music, visits with friends near and far, playing a prank, crosswords, and talking politics. He contributed to many charities.
Out of respect for family members with hyperscentivities to scents, The family asks that friends and family refrain from wearing any scented products to the visitation and service.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 21st from 2-7 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 2 p.m. in Forbes United Church, River Denys with R. Dale Crawford, RDLM officiating. Internment at a later date in Orangedale-Gillis Cove Cemetery. Family flowers only, please.
