Obituary of Noreen Elizabeth MacIver
Noreen Elizabeth MacIver
Baddeck, NS
It is with deep sorrow that we, the family of Noreen Elizabeth MacIver, 83 years, announce her sudden passing, Thursday, January 16th, at MacLeod House, Baddeck, formerly of Troy, Inverness County. Noreen was born in Shubenacadie,NS the daughter of the late Leslie and Ruby (Hannaford) Turpel.
Married 60 years to her beloved husband, Richard MacIver, Noreen was a devoted, good and faithful wife, working alongside Richard in his store in Port Hastings; and beloved mother to their children, Joy, John and Colleen instilling in them good values and a strong work ethic to succeed in life, a strength in which she set the example as a devoted worker, not only helping Richard with their store, but also as a valued employee of the Port Hawkesbury Co-op; the Highland Animal Hospital and retiring from Canada Post as a rural delivery mail driver.
Noreen was fiercely independent, enjoying life to the fullest, whether it be enjoying a horseback ride or fishing in neighboring brooks and lakes, Noreen loved life. She possessed a love for animals, particularly horses. She found ways to bring abounding joy to her children and grandchildren, even from a distance, as she would enjoy telephone and face-time conversations with her family in Fort McMurray. How very special those personal visits come summers in Baddeck, when family arrived to spend time with her! Noreen’s greatest love was her family.
Richard’s move to Alderwood, meant that Noreen would adapt to a new way of living. Despite health challenges, Noreen persevered to carry on, as a much-loved tenant of MacLeod House, helping others when she could. Frequent trips to see Richard were always a highlight of her day and she persistently made her way about Baddeck, to fulfill any errands that needed to be completed. Noreen’s generous nature provided for others to travel with her when needed, for them to also fulfill responsibilities in the community. Noreen was simply a good person, who shared her kindness, generosity and love to all.
Noreen was a member of St. David’s United Church, Port Hastings. She enjoyed her church life there, before moving with Richard to Baddeck.
Noreen is survived by her daughter, Joy Halfpenny; son, John; grandchildren, Trevor Jardine (Heather MacDonnell); Lesley (Rod) MacLellan; Randy MacIver; Great Grandchildren, J.R. and Marshall MacLellan and Bowen Jardine, all of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
