Obituary of Louise MacKenzie
It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved, wife, Mom and Amma, Mary Louise MacKenzie on Friday, January 17, 2025 at the VG Hospital in Halifax.
Louise was born on May 23, 1952 in Baddeck to the late James Andrew MacLean and Irene Mae (D’eon) MacLean of Washabuck. Mom married the love of her life, Wayne MacKenzie on October 20, 1973, at St. Columba Church in Iona. They moved to Hazeldale and spent the rest of their days together there loving, living and raising their family.
Over the years, Mom worked as a payroll clerk for DEVCO and as a secretary for Route 223 Forest Management before opening MacKenzie’s Country Store for 10 years.
She played many a game of bingo over the years, but more recently, her favourite past times were darts and crib. She looked forward to her ladie’s darts weekends every year and loved meeting new people and making new friends. She was an active member of the PC party where she made a great deal of friends and looked forward to the trips to Halifax for their AGM. No past time was more important to her than the lights of her life, her grandchildren. She always had their favourite baked treats, whether it was cookies, brownies, pies biscuits, bread or rolls. She was known for her baking especially her breads, biscuits and pies.
Mom is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Wayne MacKenzie; her children, David MacKenzie (Chelsea), Ingonish, Kevin MacKenzie (Margo), Bucklaw, Raylene Poirier (Tommy), Whycocomagh; her beautiful grandchildren, Ella, Danielle, Catherine, Colton, Gerald, Blaze, David, Dalton and Baylee; sister, Annette Melanson (Francis), Pomquet, Joey MacLean (Gwen), Boularderie, Tony MacLean, Port Hawkesbury, Lori MacLean (Dave Flaska), Edmonton, Louis MacLean (Sharon), Edmonton; sister-in-law, Debbie MacLean, Black Rock; sisters-in-law, Marjorie MacNeil, Washabuck, Barbara MacNeil (R.J.), Alba, Mary MacLean (John), Ottawa Brook and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, James MacLean and Irene MacLean; her father-in-law, John D. MacKenzie (Ottawa Brook); her mother-in-law, Theresa MacKenzie (Ottawa Brook); her brother, Jim MacLean (Black Rock); sister, Yvonne MacLean (Pomquet) and sister-in-law, Patricia MacLean (Baddeck).
We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital as well as the staff at the ICU at the VG in Halifax; your kindness meant a great deal to us in our most difficult time.
