Evangeline Agneta "Anita" Cogswell

Passed away peacefully in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, after a long struggle with vascular dementia. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Anita was born on October 28, 1936 to Stanley McNamara and Esther (Perry) McNamara in Evanston, Nova Scotia. She was the last surviving sibling of her family.
On June 18th, 1956, she married the late Howard Cogswell, who she loved and remained faithful to for over 67 years, until his passing in March of 2024. She was the mother of five children, (Debbie, Brenda [Burt], Barry, Cynthia [MacEachern] and Norma [Guthro]), 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
As an artisan, her handmade quilts and knitted products were sought after for their quality craftsmanship and beauty. She brought the same care and service to many charitable causes including serving as a long-time member of the St. Francis De Sales CWL and as a volunteer at the Strait Richmond Hospital, for which she received a recognition award in 1982.
A funeral service will be held at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 17 Church St, Lower River Inhabitants, NS B0E 1J0, on Saturday, January 11th, 2025 at 11 a.m. Weather permitting, burial will follow immediately after the funeral service at the St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetary, 1621 Whiteside Road, Whiteside, Richmond County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
A reception for family and friends will be held after the services at the Riverdale Community Centre, 106 Vince McCarthy Dr, Lower River Inhabitants, Nova Scotia, B0E 1J0.
