Obituary of Ian Kenneth MacAskill
MacASKILL, Ian Kenneth – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ian Kenneth MacAskill, age 80 of Dundee on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Donald and Margaret (MacLeod) MacAskill.
Ian graduated from St. Peter’s High School and began working at the Royal Bank in St. Peter’s and later in Dartmouth, St. John’s, NL and Halifax. Preferring to live in Cape Breton, he left the Royal Bank to work in accounting at the Gulf Oil Refinery, Point Tupper. When the refinery closed, he worked for Ultramar, then Breton Petroleum where he was employed full then part-time until as recently as the spring of 2024.
When not working, Ian enjoyed snow mobiling, boating, golfing, traveling, card plays and volunteering at the St. George’s Channel Country Breakfasts.
Ian is survived by his wife, Linda (Morrison); sister, Donna Harnish; brother-in-law, Roderick (Bertha) Morrison; nephew, Darryl (Cori Ferguson) Morrison and Emma and Kaitlyn; niece, Keri (Gary Reynolds) Morrison and Bryce and Matthew. Also surviving are several cousins. Ian was predeceased by parents, brother-in-law, Bill Harnish; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, December 13 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14 from Black River United Church with Rev. Carol Joy Shatford officiating. Burial at a later date.
