John Kirk ‘Johnny’ Hickey
Port Hawkesbury, NS
It is with profound loss that we announce the sudden passing of our loving father, son, brother,
uncle, and friend John “Johnny” Hickey on November 2 nd, 2024 at the age of 56.
John was born on June 21 st, 1968 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Elizabeth ‘Betty’ and Jack Hickey.
Johnny was a dear friend to all due to his natural charm, clever wit, and light-hearted humour.
The ease in his manner, made you leave conversations feeling special and seen. He leaves a
legacy of kindness, a calming presence, a warm laugh, and a love of the “Mighty Zep” that will
be greatly missed by those lucky enough to be loved by him.
John’s caring nature made family the center of his life, especially his beloved daughter, Paige
and their dog Sailor. Being Paige’s father was his greatest joy.
John was easy to love and impossible to forget. He will be remembered forever by his loving
Daughter, Paige (Matthew) Hickey of Truro; parents, Jack and Betty Hickey of Port Hawkesbury;
Siblings, Kelly (Ted) Bushnik of Ottawa; Elizabeth (Steve) MacDougall of Port Hawkesbury;
Raymond (Ashley) Hickey of Amherst; Susan (Michael) Hickey of Seattle; Patricia (Jim) Hickey
of Windsor; sister-in-law, Nicole of Quebec, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and
nephews, loved ones, and friends. John is reunited in Heaven with his brother and best friend, James “Jimmy” Hickey.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Port Hawkesbury Civic
Centre, in the Bear Head Room Conference Room on Sunday, November 10th, from 2:00 - 4:00
p.m. Please come help us celebrate the life of this beautiful soul. We want stories, laughter,
music, and love to pay tribute to our Johnny.
