Obituary of Luce Antoinette LeBlanc
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Luce Antoinette (Lucy) LeBlanc of Port Hawkesbury regret to announce her death on October 25, 2024. Lucy (82) was the youngest daughter and second youngest child born to Delphin and Nancy (Bourgeois) Roach of Cheticamp, NS on June 18, 1942. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Alfred LeBlanc; her two daughters, Lisa (Craig) MacDonald, Sherbrooke, NS and Michelle (Randy) Nickerson, Yarmouth, NS and also by her two grandsons, Ryan (Lauren) MacDonald and Tanner Nickerson, who called her Memere. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by special friend, Paulette Boudreau, who Lucy thought of as another daughter. We all now
have another angel to watch over us and forever in our hearts.
Next to having a spotless house, family was everything to Lucy and she made it her top priority. If her girls were involved in an organization, she would volunteer to help in some way. She would jump in whenever needed and you could always count on her showing up with rolls of paper towel, toilet paper, wild strawberry jam and jam jam cookies. That meant travelling to Charlottetown, Sherbrooke, Halifax and then Yarmouth over the years. She travelled to hockey games and hockey camps across several provinces for her two grandsons and sat in some very cold arenas along the way. We had lots of great laughs and she will be missed.
She was predeceased by her first child, Joseph in infancy; her sisters, Marie Cecile Deveau and Theresa MacIntosh and step sister Elizabeth (Lizzie) Odo; her brothers, Arthur, Paul, Thomas, Simon (twin at birth), Dominique, Charlie and step brother Joseph. Her surviving siblings from a family of 15 are: Beatrice Poirier, Sydney, NS; Henry Joe (Thelma) Roach, Ottawa, ON and Marie Yvonne (Jim) MacNeil, ON. Her surviving in-laws are: Marie Sophie Poirier, Halifax, NS, Marie Zelina (Bernie) Comeau, Saulnierville, NS, Margaret Marie (Lionel) Delaney, St. Joseph Du Moine, NS, Yvette (Roland) Chiasson, Oshawa, ON, Alfredine (Billy) Baldwin, Sydney, NS, Gilles (Marthe) LeBlanc, St, Joseph Du Moine, NS,
plus a large number of nieces and nephews, who will remember her for her hardy laugh and delicious jam jam cookies.
Lucy and Alfred moved to Port Hawkesbury in 1969 and over the years became part of a group of friends they often referred to as the French connection. That group lost some and gained some more along the way. They partied, they travelled, they played a lot of cards and they lived their best lives together. Their continued friendship and support through these difficult times has been extraordinary and will never be
forgotten. Special thanks to long-time friend Yvette Chiasson, who stepped up and assisted the family with private homecare the last few months. Both family and friends have been so supportive through all this. The visits, the food, the talks and the shopping for her were all so appreciated.
We’d also like to thank the Palliative Care team lead by Dr. Lisa Gillis and Kyla MacKeigan, that assisted us during this difficult time. They are truly a blessing. A special mention also to Dr. Arlene Kelly-Wiggins from the Geriatrics Clinic in Sydney, who took charge and guided us through this journey at a time when we had lost a bit of hope.
Lucy will be waked from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 29th in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury, NS. Her funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, Oct. 30th from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 138 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury, NS. The family would like to recommend donations be directed to Palliative Care at Strait Richmond Hospital, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
Cemetery, any community food bank or a charity of your choice. There are so many organizations that can use your help. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
