Anna Marie MacIsaac Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Anna Marie “Nana” MacIsaac, 88 on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Strait Richmond Hospital.  Born on August 17, 1936, she lived a full and meaningful life in Port Hawkesbury, NS

Anna is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, John Alexander “Sander” MacIsaac.  Together they built a beautiful family, Sandra MacLellan, Sydney, NS, Roddie (Debbie) MacIsaac, Kelowna, BC and Marlene (Terry) Morrison, Cleveland, NS.  She was a loving grandmother to Gussie and Nicole MacLellan, Travis (Shaylee) MacIsaac, Ali (Tyler) Mazzei, Nevin and Brent (Kate) Morrison.  Her love extended to her 9 great grandchildren. Anna is also survived by her brother, Vesty (Edith) MacInnis and sister, Mary Ann (William) Fox.

She was predeceased by her father, Hugh J. MacInnis, mother, Margaret (Ryan) MacKinnon and her stepfather, Dougald MacKinnon, her beloved daughter, Colleen McGrath, sister, Sarah McNamara and two sisters and two brothers in infancy.

Anna dedicated many years as a homemaker, nurturing her family with love and care before returning to work.  She retired in 2001 from the Port Hawkesbury Recreation Department, where she formed lasting friendships.  She loved playing bingo, cards, visiting the casino and reminiscing with family and friends over a cup of tea.  She cherished time with her grandchildren and great grand children, staying connected to their lives and activities through social media, which brought her immense joy.

Special thanks to the Palliative Care team and Home Support Team, as well as the Doctors and nurses for their compassionate care they provided to Anna and her family.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 24 from 4 – 8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Joby Augustin officiating.  Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
