Obituary of Ingram Everard Fowlie

Please share a memory of Ingram to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Ingram Everard Fowlie, of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. Ingram passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 17th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Black River Bridge, NB on June 27 th,1936. He was the son of the late William Robert and Susan Agnes Fowlie.

Ingram was the oldest of 5 children and grew up in Black River Bridge, NB. He was schooled in a one room school house in Black River Bridge and went on to graduate from Mirmachi Rural High School. He moved to Fredericton, NB to attend the Maritime Forest Rangers School. Following completion of his schooling, he began a career with Fraser's Pulp and Paper Mill in Edmunston, NB. It is while working here that he met the love of his life, Contance Jean White (born July 23rd ,1939).

They were married on July 26th, 1958 and lived with her parents until moving to Port Hawkesbury in 1961. He took a job in the scale house with the newly constructed Nova Scotia Forest Industries Pulp Mill. From here he advanced to the level of Woodland Supervisor, securing pulp contracts for the mill from the many private woodlot owners throughout Cape Breton. Shortly after moving to town, he began construction of our one and only home in Port Hawkesbury. Ingram was a lover of the outdoors and instilled that love in each of his children with long walks, picnics and such, filling our weekends. He was seldom idol, always on the move around the house, yard or his small woodworking shop.

He was an active member of St. Mark's United Church where he spent many hours attending to the grounds and property. He was also an active member of the church Men’s club for many years preparing and serving breakfast to all. Ingram was a truly outstanding person, always ready to give a person the benefit of doubt, not holding grudges and a kind and fair soul. He was an inspiration to all. His life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32-“And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ”.

Ingram is survived by his wife of 65 years, Connie; sister, Anna (Neil Watling); brother, Archie Fowlie (Jean);  his two daughters and three sons and their families; Wayne (Ruth), Deborah (Stuart), Kevin, Darren (Elaine), Kimberly (David), as well as 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. All of those he loved and touched dearly. He was pre-deceased by brother, Theodore (wife, Bunny) sister Beth.
