Awe. My heart is sad. I just realized who this was. We had started to work together in the high-school here in Waycobah to do drug free education. Years ago.
He was such an impressive RCMP officer. His demeanor made you feel safe, and protected and he truly believed in what he was doing in the world especially with our L'nu community. Brad once said to me when we spoke of the relationship between settler people and my people, "Your rights and benefits should follow you wherever your people decide to live in Canada, even in a city."
Brad, you were a fine human being, and a rare RCMP officer who loved protecting people. No, doubt you were greeted with Love and Light on the other side.
Forever remembered, Tina Bernard.

Dear Paula and family- my sincerest condolences on losing Brad. He was such a lovely man and it was clear how devoted he was to his family and friends. I knew he lived a life of service and touched many lives but wow, after reading his obituary I'm in awe of what a true hero he would have been to so many people. I hope all of the wonderful memories you've built together will sustain you during this difficult time. It was an honor getting to know him during our visits to your house and when you would visit Patti and Vance. Much love to all of you.

Brad was my partner for a good part of 4 years in Iqaluit. We had each others' backs and there was no situation we couldn't defuse, full stop. He was intelligent, thoughtful, and a hell of a good policeman. He's the only person I've met with a 'superaudio' system! One of his favourites to play was Dire Straights. If you asked him questions about it you better get yourself a drink (he and Rose were always exceptional hosts) and settle in for a lengthy lesson that will go over your head. Brad was like that. He had a memory like no one I've ever known. An appreciation for scotch, music, friendship, and Canadiana. His stories of 51 Division were mesmerizing. Old school cop stuff that sounded like New York in the early 80's. I chose a photo of us (youngsters) from Cst. Doug Scott's funeral, as usual with a table of empties. I will miss him dearly.

Dear Paula, Allen and Brad’s family,
I didn’t spend the time with Brad I wish I had, but you should know he impacted myself and my family far greater than our limited time together would ever suggest.
My thoughts of Brad are inevitably tied to those of my late father, who for a brief moment found a kindred spirit in Brad.
Like Brad, Dad was fueled by a drive to serve that simply didn’t come off with the rest of the uniform. In the fall of 2019, my father fought back to health in order to officiate my brother-in-law, Matthew Murray’s, wedding. It was an opportunity for a retired Justice and Navy Captain to serve again. At that wedding he met Brad through their common recognition and respect of the rare Meritorious Service Medal they both shared. It was a rare meeting of the rarest among us, selfless heroes in the truest sense of the word. They both came away from their lengthy conversation that night with a mutual admiration that I’m not sure the rest of us can really comprehend.
When I lost my father in May of 2022, my family and I received the most genuine of heartfelt messages from Brad. His words came from a place of both compassion and the deepest respect - and I will forever be grateful for them.
To think of all the people Brad must have served for the better while in and out of uniform. To think of somehow facing what he faced in that refugee camp in Zaire and still doing what he could to help. I’m just not sure I can even begin to appreciate any of that in the way it deserves. All I can do is pay my respects to his service and recognize that true heroes carry an unspeakable burden. I’m so thankful, even in my limited time with him, for who Brad was.
To Paula, Allen, and all of Brad’s family and close friends, I’m so sorry for your loss.

I became a member of the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force with Brad in 1988. We were in the same classes. Brad always had a smile on his face, he was so proud of being a Toronto police officer. I hope Brad has finally found peace from his PTSD. Being a “cop” takes away your innocence. I pray that his wife and daughters will be strong and remember Brad for the good father and husband I am certain he was. Rest peacefully Brad, you have earned it.

You were a buddy, a force and a nut. We had lots of laughs and lots of good stories. I’ll drink a toast to you and hopefully you have a drink of scotch for me waiting on the other side when we meet again.
To your family,
You welcomed my wife and I with open arms into your home when we transferred to H Division in 2011. That is precious to us and we never forget that. Remember all the good memories because that is so important.

I met Brad through the Atlantic Audiophiles group on Facebook in April 2022. Though virtual initially, he was my first friend after moving to Nova Scotia. We quickly got to know each other through texts as we shared stories of our lives and personal experiences. I was coming up to Cape Breton to bicycle the Cabot Trail that July and asked about getting to meet him. He agreed, telling me to bring along an 8TB hard drive and he'd load it with music while I was riding. Five days and 290 km of physical exhaustion later, I again rendezvoused with Brad, his wife Paula & their dog, Gibson for ice cream at The Farmer's Daughter Country Store. True to his word, he'd virtually filled the hard drive and had also copied more than 50 of my CDs for his library.
We met a few more times in Halifax, the last being at the home of his relatives, Phil & René. Each visit was chock 'a block with stories of his police years and of his love of audiophile gear and music. Our most recent communication was in mid-March when I let him know about a record release by a singer I'd known in my years in Manitoba.
I will deeply miss our texts and occasional meet-ups for beer & blab. My profound condolences to Paula and everyone who loved him as he ought to have been loved.

When I started out in policing I was assigned to Brad’s platoon in 51 division. I remember him as a professional who loved his job. He hosted the platoon at his home one time when I had only been on a few months, he treated me and the other new guys the same as anyone else.
We both left TPS for other agencies but I followed Brad on FB. His posts stood out for being very articulate and well thought out. I am very saddened by his passing. I will always remember him as one of the 51 originals that I had the absolute privilege of getting to work with.
