Obituary of Howard Joseph Maurice Cogswell
COGSWELL, Howard Joseph Maurice, 92, Evanston.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, a loving husband, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home.
Born August 10, 1931, in Evanston, he was the son of the late Frank and Sarah "Sadie" (McNamara) Cogswell.
Dad joined the military in 1952 and served overseas in Korea until he was honorably released on April 7th, 1955. He worked several jobs before joining Stora Forest Industries where he worked until retirement. He actively supported many community initiatives including serving on the board of directors of the Riverdale Credit Union. Fiercely independent and self-reliant, he took great pride in maintaining his own property, fixing and building whatever was required with his own hands.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Anita (McNamara); his daughters Debbie, Brenda, Cynthia (Joe), Norma and his son Barry (Shirley); grandchildren Michelle, Erin, Lesley, Ashley, Dana, Alyssa, Lacey, Evan, Shaun, Jonathan and Kyle; great grandchildren Riley, Ava, Nora, Joey, Maggie, Charlotte and Jack; brother, Cecil (Diane); sisters-in-law Edna Cogswell and Margaret McNamara; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Jim, Eddie, Francis and his sister, Mary Howlett.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6th at St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial to follow in St. Patrick’s cemetery, Whiteside. A reception to follow in the Riverdale Community Centre, 106 Vince McCarthy Drive, Cleveland, NS.
