John Eddy McNamara, 80 formerly of Evanston, Richmond Co., passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2024, in the St. Anne's Community and Nursing Care Centre, Arichat, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Evanston, he was the son of the late John David and Clara (Burke) McNamara.
He worked on the Hudson Survey Vessel in Dartmouth and various jobs in London, ON. He loved going to dances at the legion, enjoying good food and laughing with family and friends.
He is survived by his siblings, Noel (Marilyn), Grand Greve; Betty (Walter) King, Evanston; Alfred (Elizabeth), Evanston; Sheila (Allan), Rockingham; Dennis (Karen), Evanston; Louis (Louise), Sussex; sister-in-law, Karen, Whiteside; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sister, Anne Marie McNamara; brother, Joseph "Joe" McNamara; nephews, John Wesley Walker and Devon Gilbert; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Anne's Community and Nursing Centre for their exceptional care of John E. McNamara during his time there.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Friday from St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants with Father Joby Augustin officiating. Burial in St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery, Whiteside in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery Fund, Whiteside.
