Obituary of Jean Elizabeth Bond

 

Jean E. (nee Postletwaite) Bond

 

Bond, Jean Elizabeth (nee Postlethwaite) – 85 of Canso, Nova Scotia passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Canso Seaside Manor. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia she was the daughter of the late Ned Postlethwaite and Mary (Drover) MacAskill and was the cherished granddaughter to the late Granny and Grandad Drover who were a big part of her life and upbringing. She affectionately referred to grandad as Dad.

She is survived by her children, Angela (Kevin), Township of Chatsworth, ON; Michelle (Gerry), Canso, NS; Walter “Wally”, Antigonish, NS and her only sister, Isabel Fitzpatrick, Wasaga Beach, ON. Jean was an adoring “nanny” to her grandchildren who she held so very dear in her heart; John (Canso, N.S.), Sheldon (Brantford, ON), Caitlin (Southampton, ON) and Darwyn. Jean was predeceased by her cherished husband and love of her life of 62 years, Walter; brother, Bernard; and beloved grandson, Darwyn.

Jean spent 28+ years in public administration at the former Town of Canso. Following her retirement, she served on the former Town’s council for one term. Over the years, Jean gave back to the community by volunteering with community organizations such as the Historical Society, the Ladies Auxiliary of Eastern Memorial Hospital, Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Jean could be found knitting, crocheting, sewing, and making ceramics. She thoroughly enjoyed being out and about in town and always made time to chat with all those she met. Jean also loved her visits with her best friends, Shirley and Sandra.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and the staff at Canso Seaside Manor and Eastern Memorial Hospital for the love, attention and care they provided to her.

As per Jean’s wishes cremation is taking place and there will be no visitation or funeral service. Entombment will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes, Canso. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
