Obituary of Gladys Marie Delorey
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Delorey (Jackson) aged 68, on Friday, December 1, 2023, surrounded by her family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Canso on August 18, 1955, she was the daughter of the late William and Marie (Grover) Jackson.
Gladys lit up any room she entered and sprinkled her kindness and generosity wherever she went. She was a loving wife, mother, nanny, aunt and loyal friend to many. Her heart was filled with warmth, kindness and optimism and she was able to bring out the good in everyone she met by sharing that with them.
She was a stay-at-home mother for most of her life, where she looked after her three girls and husband who were her life. In 1993, she decided to go to work at the local Riff’s Store, where she worked for the next 12 years until it closed. For years she enjoyed volunteering for the Breakfast Program at Fanning. She enjoyed camping her whole life, most recently going to the camper in Pictou, where she met many new friends that became her camping family. Watching grandkids playing sports or a good card game were things she also enjoyed. But most of all, mom/nanny loved being surrounded by her family and close friends. She loved them beyond words and being around them made her heart complete. She will be missed greatly.
Gladys is survived by her loving husband, Henry (who loved her beyond words); beloved daughters, Cindy (Gus), Port Hawkesbury; Karen (Paul), Little Dover; Jennifer (Donnie), Fox Island; grandchildren, Emma, William, Margaret, Brandon (Melissa), Alexis, Brady, Skye, Gavin; great-granddaughter, Rivers; step great-grandchildren, Jordan, Ethan and Landon; her siblings, Howard (Winnie), Marlaine (Gus), Canso; Connie (Kevin), Truro; Fred (Monique), Nathan, Queensport; Shirley (Fred), Mulgrave; Karen (Wilson), Lunenburg. Gladys was predeceased by her step father, Nathan Rhynold Sr.; brothers-in-law, Vernon Boudreau Sr., Gerard Hanlon and Sam Delorey; sister-in-law, Theresa Jackson.
Special thanks to Dr. Alhazmi and all the fabulous nurses who cared for mom during her days at the Aberdeen Hospital in ICU and Palliative Care. Your compassion for our mother and us will never be forgotten.
