It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear brother Eldon Alex, age 59. On Monday, November 6, 2023, Eldon passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his family & friends by his side.
Born July 25, 1964 Eldon loved music and was very talented. He had quite a few guitars and would sing and play a tune often for a friend or a crowd. Eldon was also a part of the “Silver Moon Band” and “Sugarshack Band” as well. He would pass time by playing horseshoes, cribbage, poker with his friends and win or lose he always had a smile on his face. He loved to travel & go cruising with his buddies. He enjoyed fishing & being in the great outdoors. He was always open to try new things. Eldon had just recently found his roots to his culture and was very passionate and proud of his Mi’kmaw roots. He was also a volunteer fire fighter for the We’koqma’q Fire Department.
Eldon was employed in Iona as a pulp worker in his younger years. He also worked in the We’koqma’q Silver Culture Program, We’koqma’q Works Program and the most recent where he was the happiest working at was at the We’koqma’q Sky River Trail for over 5 years after he graduated from a Hospitality and Tourism Program.
Eldon is survived by his brother; Alfred Alex Sr (We’koqma’q); Sisters; Sophie Pierro (Wagmatcook), Florence Phillips (Maine, USA), Anna Marie (Wesley) Burns (Sydney) and many nieces and nephews. Foster Siblings; Jacob Martin Bernard (We’koqma’q), Mary (Joe) Johnson (Eskasoni), Allister Abun Googoo (We’koqma’q), John & Russell Marshall (We'koqma'q); Godchildren; John T Johnson (Eskasoni), Ronan Googoo (We’koqma’q). Eldon was predeceased by his Mother; Julia (Isadore) Cremo (We’koqma’q), foster mother; Mary Ann Prosper (We’koqma’q), aunt; Annie Janet Prosper (We’koqma’q), sisters; Charlotte (Cherry) Pierro (Wagmatcook), Fannie MacDonald (Truro), foster siblings; Patricia (Paul) Johnson (Eskasoni), Donald Bernard, Noel Bernard, Clarence Prosper, niece; Cheryl Pierro (Wagmatcook), Alvin David MacDonald (Truro).
We would like to thank the Nurses and Doctors of the ICU Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Also, we would like to send a special thank you to Eldon’s niece Stephanie Pierro for staying with him during the nights when he was very sick. We the family of Eldon would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts who came & visited him, prayed for him & for just being there for him. We know Eldon appreciated that very much & for that we thank you.
Visitation will held after 5pm, Tuesday, November 14 in We’koqma’q Community Hall. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, November 16 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church with Father Joby Augustin officiating. Burial at a later date. A Salite will follow the funeral mass. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
