Obituary of Lorna Doone MacDougall

Lorna Doone MacDougall, 72, of Whycocomagh, passed away peacefully at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, with her daughter at her side, on Thursday, October 12, 2023. Lorna was born on April 1, 1951, to Alden Andrew and Marie Francis (Gillis) Smith, Whycocomagh.

On August 23, 1969, Lorna married Victor George MacDougall (the Breadman) from Glace Bay. Victor soon took on a new route in Whycocomagh where they built their home and raised a family.

 Lorna was a stay at home mom with various close to home, part time jobs where she was a beautiful baker and cook. Mom lived a simple life and was happiest at home with Dad, her family and friends, her flowers, and their dog, Hooder.

Lorna was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh, where she was an active choir member and a new member of St. Andrew’s Ladies Aid. She was also a former member of local Gaelic choirs.

Lorna is survived by her husband, Victor; her daughter, Roxanne, Halifax; her son, Andrew, Whycocomagh; grandson, Tyler John MacLeod (Carly), Baddeck, whom she loved with all her heart; also her baby sister, Gail Francis’ children, who were like her own, Nick (Jessica), Johnny (Emilie), Ryan (Danielle) and Cassie (Brent); sisters, Linda Susan Lewis (Eddie), Saint John N.B. and their children, Melissa and Sarah; Judith Anne Malcolm (Gil), West Bay Road and her children, Shawn, Robbie, Kelly and Matt; Gloria Dawn Smith (Paul), Fall River, and her children, Nicole and Brad; brother, Alden Roger Smith, Whycocomagh; sister in law, Anne Marsh (Basil), Reserve Mines and their children, Wendy, Darrell and John Paul; brother in law, Rudy MacDougall (Doreen), Glace Bay, and their children, Cheryl and Sonny; several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, John Andrew; sister, Gail Francis; nephew, Todd Malcom; mother and father in law, Rannie and Sally MacDougall; brother in laws; Ronnie MacDougall and Lyman Malcolm; Tyler’s dad, Fraser MacLeod.

 Thank you to all the medical professionals who cared for our Mom over the past few years. Special thanks to Dr. Ritter, Paulette Levin and Sally MacDonald for their care of Mom in the past few weeks.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 151 Main Street, Whycocomagh, at 11:00 am, with Margie MacIntyre, LLWL, officiating. Burial at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Victoria County Palliative Care.
