Obituary of Theresa Marie Campbell
Campbell, Theresa Marie
It is with heavy hearts that we share with you the peaceful passing of our Mom, in her 87th year, at home in Red Islands. Theresa was born in Sydney. She, her parents and siblings later lived in Blackett’s Lake. Graduating from St. Joseph’s, Glace Bay, in 1957, brought her into a nursing career (supervising and head nurse) at St. Rita’s Hospital, and retiring from a head nurse position at the Regional. During her career, living in Sydney River and Westmount, Mom enjoyed hockey games at Centre 200 and ice skating with Dad with those darned racer blades. She enjoyed watching Toronto Maple Leafs, the Blue Jays and boxing on TV. With the move to Red Islands, “Mama T” found other interests; Meals on Wheels, Seniors group, Footcare and Diabetic clinics and playing Bridge. Mom’s friend Berle Sutherland kept Mom up to date on Sydney news.
She was predeceased by her husband Johnnie in 2002, after 42 years of marriage. Also gone before her are her parents Sadie (Robinson) and Joe Redmond, brothers Reggie, Jackie, Jerry, Jimmy and sister Shirley Rowe.
Left behind: her brother Robert, daughter Cathy, sons Peter (Andrea and daughter Georgia), and John (Tammy); grandchildren Hilary (Christopher), Peter, Sophie and Gabby (Sarik); great grandchildren David, Sophia and Evelyn. She was Nanny to her grandkids, and Super Nanny to her great-grandkids!
Special thanks to the VON caregivers that came everyday, VON nurses and Palliative Care RN, Kyla MacKeigan. Words cannot express how grateful we are for the kindness and care given to Mom by Andrea Gerrior, Peter’s partner! To Karen, Theresa and Alexis, Mom’s nieces, your loving memories on-line were so appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. All are welcome to join us for a graveside service in Johnstown, Wednesday, August 30 at 11am, followed by a tea at the parish hall. Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peters.
