Obituary of Viola Frances Stroud

Please share a memory of Viola to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stroud (Dixon) Viola Frances

Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Viola, 79, passed away at home on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

Born in South Harbour, Cape Breton, she was the oldest child of Joseph and Patricia (MacEachern) Dixon.

Our mom was the kindest soul.  She always had an open door where everyone was welcome.  The teapot was always on and feeding people was her specialty, regardless of the time of day.

Viola will be forever missed by Frank, her husband of 59 years; daughters Cheryl (Sylvain), Heather (Owen), Brenda (Shawn) and chosen daughter Evelyn; grandchildren Emily, Eric, Shannon, Devin, Krista, and Brent; great grandchildren Noah and Aubree; sister Stasia (Henry), who she loved beyond measure; brothers Wade (Darlene) and Peter (Dorothy); special cousin Charlotte who has been a lifelong friend since the age of 2.   She was predeceased by her parents, granddaughter Natasha and brothers Allan and Leonard.

Mom wanted to remain at home, and we’d like to thank all of the care workers and palliative care team who helped and guided us along the way as we took care of our beautiful mom.

A funeral service will be held Friday, August 18 at 10 am at St Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Bedford, NS.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.

Words of comfort can be forwarded to Viola’s family at www.haverstocks.com.
