It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Carter of Sampsonville, Richmond Co. who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023. Born January 4, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Dorothy (Burke) Landry.
Shirley was a homemaker, she worked at Burke’s Groceries and was a caregiver and babysitter for many families. She volunteered for local organizations including the Richmond Villa and the Lakeside Community Association. She loved to visit with friends and family, playing bingo & card games and reading a good book. In her younger years, she loved to be outside enjoying activities like swimming and skating. Her favorite place in the world was the camp where she spent many days with her grandson, Michael.
She is survived by her children, Melissa (Billy), Ricky (Michelle), Cathy (Gary) and Lauriann (Carl); grandchildren, Michael (Kayla), CJ (Taylor), Jessica (Craig), Justine, Carter, Lindsay (Liam) and Connor; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Mya, Ophelia, Ellison and Daniel; her siblings, Luke, Polly & Gordie. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Ciffie Carter and her siblings, Keats, John, Olga, Veva and Clarence.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 14th from 2-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial Street, St. Peter’s. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 15th at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter’s with Father Antonlin Asor officiating.
Memorial donations can be made to Autism Nova Scotia – Strait Area Chapter or to the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
The family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. DeRoche, Lesley LeRue and all her nurses at the Strait Richmond Hospital for their compassionate care.
