Obituary of Ruth Joan MacRae
MacRae, Ruth Joan - It is with profound sadness the family announces the death of Ruth Joan MacRae, Port Hawkesbury, NS, which occurred Wednesday, May 24th in Strait Richmond Hospital. Well known as “Ruthie”, she was born on Hunter’s Mountain, Victoria County, on March 10, 1945, the daughter of the late Norman and Catherine MacLean.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Angus MacRae; son, Richard, Port Hawkesbury; grand-daughters, Sophia and Sadie; daughter-in-law Audrey MacRae; sister, Mary Ross, River Denys; brother, Donald and Lillian MacLean, Baddeck. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her son, Greg in 2007; sisters, Norma Bernard and Philene MacRitchie.
She worked in the business office of Department of Transportation until her retirement in 1996. During her retirement she spent countless hours planning and organizing events for St. Marks United Church and envelope secretary for 15 years. She worked diligently for the Canadian Cancer Society including the Port Hawkesbury Relay for Life. She loved cooking, baking and socializing with family and friends until poor health limited her ability to do so.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury, on Saturday, May 27th, at 11:00 am. Lunch to follow immediately following the service. Private Committal service in Southbrook Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
