Kavanagh, Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) - 82, St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough County, N.S., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 19, 2023. She is survived by her children, Allan (Sue), Joe (Marites), Wade (Chrissie), Shelly (Brian) and Blaise (Kim), her sister Joyce (Leaman), her brothers Carl (Joy), Ray (Donna), Charlie (Denise), and eight grandkids. Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, and grandson, John Martin.
Betty graduated from the Truro Normal College and taught in Chezzetcook before marrying and raising her family. After spending several summers upgrading her teaching certificate at St. Francis Xavier University, she spent years substitute teaching and finished her career as a Teacher’s Assistant.
Betty lived a life of grace in the service of others. She exemplified the qualities of hard work, quiet determination and unconditional love. Betty loved nothing more than visits with her family of whom she was extremely proud. She spent her years in St. Francis surrounded by friends, and volunteering with the church, the Ladies Auxiliary, Canadian Cancer Society and Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Known for her welcoming nature, there was always company at the door. She was a wonderful cook, known far and wide for her molasses cookies.
To honour her wishes, there will not be a viewing or church service. A graveside service will be held on Friday April 28th at 2pm at the St. Francis Harbour Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the St. Francis Harbour Parish Cemetery.
