I first met Mary back in the 1980's when I travelled throughout her district in my role as a visiting social worker. I soon came to rely on Mary for her words of wisdom, compassion and humour, along with a cup of tea, as she guided me to a better understanding of some challenging dynamics in the work we shared. I was delighted years later to find her again as a highly valued part of the social services team in Richmond County. And then, in retirement, it was my good fortune to enjoy her company and service on the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.
Some people bring a shine to our lives that leads us to try a little harder, be a lot kinder, go that extra mile. Mary was one of those people to me, and to so many others.
I hope her family will find comfort in knowing that Mary was held in the highest regard in so many good hearts, especially in the families she served with such dignity.

My condolences on Mary's death. Many years ago when I did services in Whycocomagh she often came down to the service and we had a visit. She talked very enthusiastically about her work which she loved. It's a great blessing when you can earn your living doing what you love.
She and her family are in my prayers.
"May her rest this day be in peace, and her dwelling place the habitation of God."

One by one our family memories are getting a little more faded as we all age but for Mary I always thought she was"ageless" and my memories of spending so many summers at her place still remain vivid as I thought she was the "hippest" mother I knew, even if she was my cousin and man, could she cook!!!!!!! To the whole family my sincere condolences. She will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Mary at The Department of Community Services in St. Peter’s and our friendship continued on long after her retirement. She loved her family very much and we shared many stories, she was strong, smart, independent, kind and gave wonderful advice. She will be greatly missed and I will miss our visits, chats and laughs. My heartfelt condolences to the MacIver family, Mary was a special lady and great friend.

Betty, Ernie, Gary, Karen, Carole, Bob and grandchildren,
I was so saddened to hear about Mary. I got to know her when she joined the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. Mary was treasurer for many years and kept a meticulous system without a computer, she had a quiet demeanor and a smile that was infectious.
My sincere condolences to all her family ànd friends.

I offer sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to Mary's family. I clearly recall meeting Mary in Wagmatcook, and later in We'koqma'q, early in our careers. She always impressed me then as a thorough and thoughtful professional, so it was a truly delightful thing when Mary successfully competed for a staff position with the Department of Community Services, Port Hawkesbury District, It was fortunate for our Department; our District; our clients, and our staff, that we availed of Mary's mature measured strengths. Regardless of the circumstances and the challenges, Mary always found a way; always knew what to do, and how to do it in the most respectful and kindest way.
It is no surprise to read of Mary's great enjoyment with family. In my minds eye I can still see her radiant recollections of family events. I always thought well of Mary. It is my hope that your fond memories of her life well lived, will be some solace in your great loss.

Q: How would you describe Mary to someone who had never met them?
A: Mary was a student of mine in the Micmac BSW Program at Dal and was a very determined caring woman who wanted the best for all the people she helped. It was a pleasure to work with her because she was a model of determination to get this degree. She was indeed proud of her accomplishment. She was a very positive student who encouraged her classmates to succeed as well. RIP Mary
