Dear Aunty Glenda
From my earliest memories of family times shared with you, Uncle Bill, Paul, Gail and Elaine on your visits home bring memories of crazy tents in a farmers field and a camper van well in those days more a van, with a trip to the beach which end up with the AA man and us all gathering around a van with no keys, a beach combing walk on a deserted St Andrews beach while visiting and celebrating with your relations and then your telephone calls with many stories swapped over the years, especially of New Year Eve parties in the Uk and Canada in uncle Bill’s basement bar.
Christmas and birthday cards sent with love with those special hand written letters inside, a seasonal sticker and address label to the top of the envelope and letters for good measure and always sealed off with your air mail sticker, I will miss.
Growing up with an Aunty and Uncle that lived in Canada always seemed such an adventure and excitement when we spoke as it felt so so far away in the 70s and 80s and myself being so young.
The adventure came reality when I visited you in later years and found the reason why you settled in Port Hawkesbury a wonderful open place packed full of history of the great outdoors with Pine tree roads, plenty of exploring and adventure to be had if you were looking, it was just great to see all those stories come alive while visiting you in your family home and much loved town that you had spoken about over the years, from the causeway to the Port where the large ships sailed and yachting club into the old town street to read the history boards, view the lodge, Royal Canadian Legion, Civic Centre and the power plant, topped off with a early morning walk of exploring that took me high over the bay and strait of Canso watching the peacefulness of Port Hawkesbury start to come alive.
Life and time have past us by since then Aunty Glenda but it was always a pleasure when we could speak and to see your smile when we spoke to each other for what sadly was to be the last .
God bless you Aunty Glenda and farewell, all our thoughts are with you all at this very sad time.

We found this poem and thought both you Gail and Elaine would appreciate its contents. ❤
YOUR MOTHER
Although you cannot hear her voice
Or see her smile no more.
Your Mother walks beside you still
Just as she did before.
She listens to your stories and
Wipes away your tears.
She wraps her arms around you
And wipes away your fears.
It's just she isn't visible,
To see with human eye
But talk to her in silence and
Her spirit will reply
You'll feel the love she has for you,
You'll feel it in your heart.
She's left her human body, but
Your souls will never part.

I had the honour of volunteering with Glenda in the religious education program at St Joseph's. A few weeks ago I was sorting through photos from those days and so many fond memories of Glenda surfaced. She was always the "costume" person because she could weave her magic and ' make a silk purse out of a sow's ear". The children always looked wonderful and true to form she smiled that beautiful smile and sent them off happy. We have missed her vicious personality for these last years.
May she now rest peacefully.
My prayers and thoughts are with you.
Sincerely. Marie MacNeil

Aunty Glenda
You were and will be always in our thoughts, when we spoke in person it was always an enthusiastic exchange of stories. You were always so upbeat on life and even towards the end you made only mention of what you were grateful for, a noble outlook while you looked to the final horizon.
I always appreciated your energy and your viewpoint on the world. Your deep interest in what was happening for us and how our life was evolving was always touching.
It must be said from an early age I only got to share the best of times with our combined families. Great memories were made traveling in vans, camping in Devon and Cornwall.
Despite the sheep in the camp and losing the van keys in the ocean we found plenty to laugh about.
We had a very lively gathering many moons ago in Saint Andrews with the really extended family, which was quite eventful for all of us indeed!
One very special memory, I will never forget is the trip I made to Nova Scotia, and you and Uncle Bill’s hospitality, welcoming me to your home and touring us around Cape Breton, including a day sailing which was a first for me but forever memorable.
I always planned to come to see the island once more, I am sorry I wont be able to see it again with you but you will ways be with us in our hearts and souls.
Your deeply Scottish roots stayed so strong with you, your family and your community, it was impressive to see and reminded me;
“ You can take a Scot out of Scotland but you can’t take Scotland out of the Scot!”

Elaine and Gail,
I am saddened to read of your Mother's passing, which is a huge loss for you, and so many. Her kindness, beautiful smile, and wonderful laugh will be remembered by many. This morning I am wearing a flower bracelet she'd given each of us (Elaine, Darlene, Donna and myself) many years ago, and took the time to re-read the gift card she'd included with it. Sending condolences and hugs, Jean

My dear sister Glenda has gone. Glenda was a compassionate nurse, and a friend to many. She led a full and active life caring for her family, included guides, crafting, church and her normal work. She was a good swimmer and won a trophy for swimming when she was at Lawside Academy in Dundee. She was popular with all her friends. She will be missed by all who loved her .
