Obituary of Patricia Imlay

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Patsy (Patricia) Imlay on February 17, 2023 at the age of 76 at Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born on July 26, 1946, at St. Marthas Hospital, Antigonish, NS, to the late Mary Jane (nee Fitzgerald) Jamieson and George Clifford Jamieson.

Patsy spent her entire working career caring for others, graduating from the Halifax Infirmary as a CNA in 1964 at the age of 18. She was a devoted and compassionate individual who’s calling lead her to her nursing career at Guysborough Memorial Hospital where she dedicated her many years to her community until her early semi-retirement in 1997. During Patsy’s faithful service to her community at Guysborough Memorial Hospital she honed her skills to become an LPN and an Xray and Lab Technician. If Patsy wasn’t Nursing, she was bookkeeping for the family business. Patsy comfortably wore many hats. Patsy loved to laugh and took every opportunity to show her sense of humour. She was an avid crafter and had an adventurous spirit, she believed in making memories with her family and those who were close to her, and she believed that music was the gateway to the soul. She took her many family responsibilities to heart and always provided for her family first. She was our constant.

Even in sickness and her unwavering presence at home she was always the beautiful selfless soul that loved unconditionally. Despite the hardships of dementia with many days’ mom struggling to be here with her family, every one of those days made us proud that she did. She was a fighter and her joy for life and indomitable spirit is what kept her with us to the end. Today and every day she will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Patsy is survived by her devoted husband Robert (Bob) of 57 years and her loving children Denise (Rick), Debbie (Kell), Dawn (Chris) and Danny (Danita). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Kerry, Kaitlyn, Isaac, Lacy, Michael, Mackenzie, Madison, Garson, Jamieson, Will, Sophie, Jack and Austin and great grandchildren Lucas, Oaklynn, Sloane and Fox, and her special friend Elaine. Patsy is survived by siblings Linda, Susan and Clinton (Donna). Patsy was predeceased by brothers Carmen, Sherman and Charlie and her infant twin-sister, Ann.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the many staff at Guysborough Memorial Hospital, many of whom had only heard of mom’s nursing legacy, for caring for her as one of their own. The warmth and affection that came so easily to her has been resonated by the community she served at her passing. A special thank you to Donna for being her constant. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in mom’s name be made to Guysborough Memorial Hospital or charity of your choice.

There will be a Service of Remembrance for Patsy on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11am at Wesley United Church in Guysborough, with reception to follow. Internment will be at a later date. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
