Obituary of Ernest Eugene Munroe
MUNROE, Ernest Eugene – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of the kindest of souls. Our dad Ernie, age 90 of Little Dover on Sunday, February 12, 2023 in the Canso Seaside Manor. Born in Little Dover on January 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Daniel and Annie (Harnish) Munroe.
Ernie is survived by his daughter, Linda (Robroy) MacDonald, Amherst; son, Ernie (Nickie), Amherst; son-in-law, Dale Casey, Little Dover; grandchildren, Kristen MacDonald, Stephen Snow and William Casey; brother, Lawrence; sister, Valeria (Martin) Bouchie. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Nina (Bouchie); daughters, Ada and Sheila in infancy; brothers, Franklin, Alonzo, Kenneth, Garfield, Thomas, Lloyd, Lauchie; sisters, Ada, Marie and one in infancy.
He was a loving father and grandfather. Dad was a fisherman for many years. He loved to garden, hunt and he loved listening to the oldies on Saturday night and watching all the old westerns. When he retired, he loved hanging out on the wharf waiting for the boats to come in to see who got the biggest catch. I will always cherish the memories we made together, from picking blueberries and coming out covered in ants, taking me to pick mayflowers, helping me make fudge that never did turn out, making blueberry jelly and straining it through nans nylons and digging snow tunnels for hours. You were a great dad. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. His face always lit up with a big smile when they were near.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Canso Seaside Manor where Dad lived the last few years of his life. His favorite part of living there was the hugs and handshakes they always made him smile. You treated him like family and he always had a smile for you. Your kindness and caring for him was amazing, we can never thank you enough.
