Shirley I will forever cherish the wonderful memories I have of our times together. You are a shining example for all of us on how to give love unconditionally. You have the most beautiful smile and the ability to make everyone feel special. You always looked on the bright side of life. You could always make us laugh even when you were so sick. I am grateful you are no longer in pain and with mom and dad. I love you my beautiful Irish twin.

A Visit to a Fortune Teller
Whenever we sisters would be together it was a blast. One morning, Geraldine, Brenda, Shirley & I were together talking about going to a Physic. We found one outside of Elmsdale, NS. So off we went to find this man. When we got to his place we started to second guess if it were the right choice. There were fluorescent pink signs leading up to the little old house. Chickens were running around and a lot of garbage all over. We sat in the car and debated if this was a good idea. Shirley really wanted to do it, so they told me to go knock on the door. At the door the sign said Ring Bell, so I nervously did. Out came an older man who reminded me of Willy Nelson. We went inside and chickens were running around inside. There was a picture on the ceiling of an alien. We were thinking we should go but Garfield (Fortune Teller) said, at 10:00 am, our father (who is passed) came to him and told him we were coming. That was time we had made the decision to go. He had 4 chairs set up for us. So we thought we might as well stay. He told Shirley she has a guardian angel with her and he said it was me. He told us a lot of funny stuff but that stood out the most to me He had a sign up that said “Pay by Grass, Cash or Birdseed. We laughed so much from the visit. We did have fun with him. The one thing Shirley would remind me of over the years was, I was her guardian angel. I hope I was a good one and I believe Shirley is mine now. I Love You Shirley With All My Heart Always ❤️

Q: What will you never forget about Shirley?
A: It was sad news to hear of Shirley's passing. I have fond memories of Shirley growing up in Point Tupper as well as the whole Matheson family. I remember how Shirley always had a smile and was so pleasant to be around. Shirley loved chocolate haystack (macaroon) cookies, I would make them and take some to her and we would go rowing around Point Tupper in some old rowboat that would barely float as she ate them. I am so very sorry for the loss of Shirley. I had the privilege of meeting Shirley in Point Tupper when we were children. Over the years we met from time to time and she was a volunteer board member as we developed the local Transition House (Leeside). Shirley was a hard worker, she was kind and gentle, she had a beautiful smile and a great laugh. Shirley will always be remembered as a caring, wonderful, dependable woman who will be greatly missed.

Shirley had a love for homemade cinnamon rolls. We shared many cups coffee with cinnamon rolls. Shirley had a heart of gold, and always found good in everybody. I will miss Shirley so much, but take pride remembering all the special memories over the years.
