Obituary of Jean Evans
MARJORIE “JEAN” EVANS
We regret to announce the passing of Marjorie “Jean” Evans at the age of 98 years on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck, NS. Our Mom was born in Milton, ON and was the daughter of the late Ross and Gladys Swackhamer. She spent her youth in the west end of Toronto where she met and married Kenneth Evans, a young engineer, in 1946. They were married for 58 years and together they spent time in Etobicoke, Oakville and Thornhill, ON; Moose Jaw, SK; and in Halifax, Port Hawkesbury and Dundee, NS. She was a mother of 4; a grandmother of 12; and a great-grandmother of 25 and she will be greatly missed by all. In all of the places they lived, our parents were very active in community projects and in various United Church congregations. Mom enjoyed choir, golfing, curling, lawn bowling and bridge and she and Dad had a number of wonderful trips to many places in the world.
Jean is survived by her sons, Larry (Lucille); Brian (Laurianne); and Doug (Helen); and her daughter, Pat (John).
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jocelyn (Dan); Jessica (Glenn); Jillian (Ian); Luke (Jessica); Kyle (Jill); Amanda (Richard); Heather (Daniel); Tyler (Amanda); Tami (Dallin); Nick (Carla); Chad (Kyla); and John Michael (Aimee).
She is also survived by her great- grandchildren, Max, Gabby, Lucie, Sam, Ellis, Paul, Emmy, Pearl, Robin, Justin, Sam, Carson, Nora, Ellie, Emma, Sophia, Jack, Lydia, Graham, Ford, Cassidy, Joshua, Payton, Ethan and Ryleigh.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was also pre-deceased by her sister, Nadine Stinton.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to “D”, whose help and support for Mom and Pat allowed Mom to remain in her Dundee home for as long as possible. We owe a huge thank you to our sister, Pat, for the loving care she provided for Mom in her final years. We also want to extend thanks to the staff in the Loch Bhreagh Unit of Alderwood Rest Home. Your compassionate care for our mother is so very much appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. A Gravside service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 11 a.m. and the interment of her ashes and those of our father, Kenneth Evans, at Black River United Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com.
