Kavanaugh, Priscilla Ernestine (England) - St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough Co. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Priscilla Ernestine (England) Kavanaugh, Tuesday, December 13th 2022. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Priscilla was born on May 26th, 1936, in Sand Point, Nova Scotia. She was the eldest of the late Ernest and Edna (Martin) England. Priscilla, 86, was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Patrick L. Kavanaugh; sister, Marion; brother, Donald and daughter, Patsy. She is survived by her only son Martin Kavanaugh (Marilyn), Lantz; brother, Herman England (Shirley), Charlos Cove; brother, Sydney England, Hammonds Plains; son-in-law, Dannie Grady, St. Francis Harbour; grandchildren, Adam and Megan Kavanaugh, Laureen and Brenda Grady, great-grandson, Jack Shea and several nieces and nephews.
Priscilla lived a life rich with a variety of experiences. After raising her beloved children with husband Pat in St. Francis Harbour on a farm filled with music, pets, and - always - the aroma of “yummy” food cooking, Priscilla worked as a clerk at the Royal Bank in Mulgrave, at Canso Fisheries, and at various retail stores in Port Hawkesbury and Halifax. Later, determined to see the world, she worked as an elder-caregiver in Florida, Boston, and New York, where she spent her days off going for long walks, exploring museums and art galleries, enjoying new cuisines, and meeting new friends. No matter where she traveled - her photo albums were filled with adventures in New York, Paris, Boston, California, Hawaii, Bermuda and even Texas – little reminders of Priscilla’s love for her family and friends would arrive in the form of beautiful postcards with musings about gratitude and living your dreams, or a thoughtful keepsake to let you know that she was thinking of you. Priscilla had many passions and a great appreciation for Arts and Entertainment: she loved Broadway and the movies (framed posters of her favourite films and movie stars adorned her walls), reading travel books and celebrity or cooking magazines, listening to music of all kinds, and, whenever or wherever she got the chance, Priscilla loved to dance. Priscilla lit up every room she walked into, with a genuine smile and spring in her step, taking great care to dress to the nines whether at church on Sunday as a faithful parishioner of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, or for lunch or to receive guests at the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, where she will be fondly remembered as one of their most fashionable, fun-loving, and friendly “thank you, honey” residents. Priscilla’s joyful heart, adventurous spirit, inspiring stories, and loving hugs, will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
The family wish to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, and Priscilla’s additional caregivers, son-in Law, Dannie Grady and sister-in-law, Shirley England, for the kindness shown and care given to Priscilla during her extended stay in Guysborough.
Funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in St. Francis Harbour. Burial at the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only.
