Munro, Gordon Stewart; Whycocomagh, NS Age 92
With the love of his family surrounding him, Stewart passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12th, 2022 at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Born October 2nd, 1930 at his cherished Saybrook Farm, Whycocomagh to parents John S. and Jessie (MacSween), Stewart and his seven siblings, Alcorn, Donnie, George, Bobby, Lorraine, Ruth & Jean grew up in a hard-working, loving home. It was there, where Stewart’s roots grew deep and from where he never wanted to be far from.
After attending school, working on the farm and in the lumber camp, Stewart began his lifelong profession of truck driving; and in his later years he worked for the Dept of Highway as a foreman. He met his future wife, Cinderella while attending a shivaree and they were married on June 10th, 1954.
Stewart and Cindy were wonderful parents to Anne, John and Rodney; and nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stewart’s home was always a welcome place for friends and family to drop in for a visit where many laughs and stories were shared.
Stewart will be remembered with love and is survived by: his children; Anne & Ken Dorey (Bedford) and grandsons, Andrew and Neal; John & Carole Munro (Whycocomagh) and grandchildren, Lindsey (Jamie), Jonathan (Barb), Matthew, Blake (Sam) and Callie (Greg) ; Rodney & Joanie Munro (Whycocomagh) and granddaughters, Emma and Grace; his great-grandchildren, Rhylyn, Anthony, Zander and Quinn; his sister in law Miriam Munro; many nieces and nephews and lifelong friend, Burton MacIntyre. Stewart was predeceased by his parents, his wife Cindy, three sisters, four brothers and his great-granddaughter, Alaina.
During Stewart’s last few years, he was blessed to receive wonderful care by local Home Care support and while living at Belle Isle in Alderwood Rest Home.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16th from 4-8pm at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 11am in Stewart United Church with Rev. John Tapscott officiating. Burial to follow in Stewartdale Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
