Obituary of Beatrice Patricia Horne

Please share a memory of Beatrice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Horne, Beatrice Patricia “Beattie” - 79, of Little Dover, Guysborough County, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Antigonish with her loving family by her side.

Born in Little Dover, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Evelyn (Bouchie) Myatt.

Beattie resided in Little Dover all her life, raising four children with her husband of 60 years, Winslow. In addition to her many years spent working at the Canso Fish Plant, she also enjoyed being active in the community and forged lifelong friendships along the way. Beattie was a devout Catholic and a member of the St. Agnes Parish church choir and the parish council.

‘Nan’, as she was known by her grandchildren, would always share her love of crafting, sewing and baking whenever she had the chance. She also loved music, instruments and dancing as much as she enjoyed being in her kitchen – you never left her house without a full belly and a sweet treat. Her homemade recipes and handmade quilts will always be a constant reminder for her family of her unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who were fortunate to know her.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Winslow; four children, Marlene, Truro; Denise (Shannon), Antigonish; sons, Darrell (Marina), Sackville and Don (Joanne), Canso; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sisters, Vera, Sylvia (Harold), Bernadette (Ray); brothers, Harvey (Shirley), Bernard and Dave (Wanda).

Predeceased by in-laws, Isaac and Margaret Horne and siblings, Gloria, Fred, Donnie, Bert and Bill.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 28 from 2 to 8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 121 School St, Canso. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, November 29 at 11 a.m. from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Reverend Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial to follow in St. Agnes Parish Cemetery, Little Dover.

Memorial donations may be made to St Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Antigonish or St Agnes Parish, Little Dover. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
