Mattie, Bernard “Bernie” - age 75
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Born in Antigonish, NS, Bernie grew up on the family farm in Tracadie. He eventually moved to Toronto, then Cheticamp, NS where he worked in the trucking industry and where his three children were born, then to Port Hawkesbury, NS which he called home for the past 37 years.
Bernie was a valued and devoted employee of Norvon Enterprises for 30 years and could always be counted on when a job needed to be done. He was known far and wide for his willingness to lend a helping hand, and those hands never stopped.
A passionate outdoorsman, his greatest joy came from sharing his love of hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren who will be forever grateful for all the time he devoted to them while enjoying fresh air and adventure.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Karen; children Jody of Truro, NS, Jolene (Lucas) of Edmonton, AB, and Justin of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren Cameryn, Ben, Jack, Noah, Rowan, and Eli who were his greatest pride and joy; Siblings Carol of Langley, BC, Michael (Anne) of Stellarton, NS, Basil (Elaine) of Tracadie, NS, Robert of Halifax, NS, Ralph (Donalda) of Tracadie, NS, in-laws Marie, Dorothy and John and numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents James and Rita, siblings Margaret, James, Ted, Charlotte, and brother in law Spiro.
He was loved by all and will be missed by many. Through all of us, Bernie’s kindness and adventurous spirit will shine on forever.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov 4, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 45 Old Trunk Rd, Monastery, NS B0H 1W0 with Father John Barry officiating.
In lieu of flowers, our family wishes for you to honour Bernie by helping others and never turning your back to a friend in need.
