Born January 13, 1936, in Steep Creek, Guysborough Co., Edward "Ed" was the eldest son of the late James Lester and Vera Reide (Hayden) Grant. Known for his bear hugs, dad was a gentle giant who cherished his family dearly. He also enjoyed time spent with his good friends Gerald and Bruce. Ed was a member of the United Church of Canada and attended Wesley United Church in Guysborough and Boylston United Church, past member of Eastern Star Guysborough and Eastern Star Mulgrave.
