Young, Alfred Joseph – Age 71 of Wagmatcook First Nation and formerly of We’koqma’q First Nation occurred on Wednesday, October 12 in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Born in Eskasoni he was a son of the late Charles and Caroline Young. Alfred spent many years as a bus driver, medical driver and carpenter. During ball season you could find Alfred and his late wife Mary Jane selling hot dogs and hamburgers. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends.
Alfred is survived by his wife Patty (Simon) Young; daughter; Autta (Albert) Sylliboy; Pictou Landing; step-daughter, Whitney Robertson, Wagmatcook; sons; Andrew (Kelly) Phillips, Stanford (Denise) both of We’koqma’q, Alfred Jr. (Tamara) Young, Pictou Landing; step-sons; Tad Simon, Andrew Simon, Grant Simon of Wagmatcook; sisters; Gloria Gould, Anita Young, Charlotte Young, Mary Ann (Hud) Paul all of Eskasoni; brothers; Charles Young, William Young, Allan (Jacqueline) Young, Kevin (Emily) Young, Alphonse (Annie) Young all of Eskasoni; grandchildren; Jessie (Dillon), Andy, Jakob (Lacie), Konrad (Kenna), Kylee, Katerra, Katalina, Kitpu, Kinsley, Tasha, Jasimm, Carly and Albert; great grand children; Joshua, Sarah, Artemi and Amelia and numerous nieces and nephews. Alfred was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane Young, daughter, Rachael Phillips, son, Christopher Young, brother; Gabriel “Gubby” Young.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday, October 20 in Wagmatcook Elder Centre, 65 Fishery Road, Wagmatcook. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 from Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, Wagmatcook. Salite to follow immediately after funeral mass.
Burial will be at 1:30p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022 in Blessed St. Kateri Holy Trinity Parish Cemetery, We’koqma’q.
