Obituary
Mabel Frances (George) Jamieson passed away peacefully at home in Half Way Cove, with her family by her side, on October 7, 2022. She was 82 years old. Mabel and her brother, Stan, passed away within hours, on the same day; the last of a family of 10 siblings. Mabel is survived by Aubrey, her loving and devoted husband of 64 years. She was predeceased by parents Annie Frances (Kinney) George and Freeman George, and siblings Joseph, Doris, Vivian, Robert, Donald, Stanley, Georgina, Vernon, and Freeman. Mabel was born on April 19th, 1940 in Half Way Cove. Mabel and Aubrey welcomed five children: Anna (Brian Williams), Elizabeth (Eric George), Dean (Kim), Francis (Carrie-Beth), and Roberta (George Van Caeyzeele). Mabel loved and was so proud of her 10 grandchildren (Lynn, Jason, Breanna, Palmer, Darren, Chad, Paige, Preston, Skylar, and Dustin), 14 great-grandchildren (Kayla, Bethany, Noah, Bailey, Jake, Jack, Jessie, Denver, Conor, Wyatt, Waylon, Maggie, Kinsley, and Georgia), and 3 great-great grandchildren (Paisley, Sawyer, and Charlie). Mabel also survived by many nieces and nephews, several of which were very near and dear to her heart, especially Rebecca George. Nanny J.’s house was always filled with love, treats, cookies and hugs. She lovingly kept her littles dressed in hand knitted sweaters, hats, mittens, hand made clothing, Christmas socks, and quilts. This kindness was extended to community children, and children near and far, and included making hats and socks for babies of many NS hospitals. Mom always had a pot of tea on the stove and was an avid card player with whoever was willing to play. She always had a dish of change ready and would play for hours, even if her dish was empty. Mom was a hard-working woman. She worked at the Goshen Restaurant and was then a switch-board operator prior to being a stay-at home mom for many years. She then worked at The Barn Restaurant and finished her working career with the NS Department of Highways. She was a ladies auxiliary member of the Chedabucto Volunteer Fire Department and was a dedicated ‘ticket-seller’ for the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Foundation. We will dearly miss her setting us all straight with ‘the’ details, birthdates, and stories. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in St. James Anglican Church, Half Way Cove. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15 in St. James Anglican Church. Burial to follow in church cemetery. Reception following at the St. James Church Hall. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. James Anglican Church, Chedabucto Volunteer Fire Department, or Guysborough Memorial Hospital Foundation. Masks encouraged. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
