Turvey, Colin John - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Colin John Turvey, aged 84, of St. Francis Harbour on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022. His death occurred at home in the presence of his devoted and caring family. Colin was the only child of Edwin and Doris Turvey of London, England. He spent many years of his life at sea starting at age 17 in the English Merchant Navy, then with the Canadian Navy, and offshore Marine ships. Colin was an avid sports fan and dog lover, especially his daily trips to town to walk coco around the park.
He is survived by his wife Rose Ehler of 61 years. Children, Debra (Dave) George, Cheryl (Lance) Peters, Shawn (Melanie) Turvey, Melody (Cyril) Dowling, Lesley (Brian) Hartt, Shane (Kim) Turvey, Jennifer (Noel) Hepp, 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Leon (Marie) Ehler, Chester (Ada) Ehler, Orn (Florence) Ehler, Barry (Barbara) Ehler, and Ray Haywood. Sisters-in-law, Eileen Ehler, Beverly (Arnold) Grady, Aunt Edna MacDonald, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Harvey Ehler, Michael Ehler, Ray Ehler, Clyde Ehler, James Ehler, Uncles Cyril Brow and Bob MacDonald; sisters-in-law, Bernice Haywood, Marjorie Ehler, Marilyn Ehler, Norma Ehler, and Aunt Cecilia Brow.
Funeral will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in St. Francis Harbour officiated by Father Alan MacPhie on Wednesday, Oct 5 at 2pm. Burial to follow in the St. Francis Parish Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank with much gratitude to the continuing care nurses, doctors, and hospital staff at the Guysborough Memorial Hospital.
Donations can be made to the Respect Life Center in Antigonish and/or the St. Francis Cemetery Fund.
