Please share a memory of Violet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MACIVER, VIOLET FRANCIS- it is with great sorrow, but with thanksgiving, that we announce the death of our mother and grandmother, Violet Francis MacIver, who died at Victoria County Memorial Hospital on October 8th with her family at her side. Born in Habour Grace, NF, in 1918, she was the daughter of the late James Kenneth and Mary Grace (Budden) Francis.
She came to Cape Breton with her family at an early age. She grew up in Glace Bay and late in Hazeldale, Victoria County. She worked in Little Narrows and the Sydney area for many years before returning to Hazeldale and marrying Jimmy (John E) MacIver and raising her family on the MacIver homestead in South Cove. A final a move brought her to Little Narrows where she enjoyed life in the “old manse” for the last 38 years of her life. She was predeceased by her husband James Colin (Jimmy) in 1969, sisters, Blanch, Shirley, Lil, Betty, Clemantine, Rita, Gladas, and one brother Dolland. She is survived by daughters, Doris (Ken) Boyd, Boisdale, Margaret (Rob), Martin, Hatchet Lake, and sons, Rev Colin, Winnipeg, David (Linda) Coxheath, and John (Linda), Little Narrows, and two Sisters Mable MacDonald and Claras Dean, both of Glace Bay. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was a very resourceful person and a creative artist in cloth, thread, and yarn.
Her quilts and other handcrafts are legacies left to her family and friends. Avid reading took her on journeys over time and around the world, so boredom was unknown to her. She was a member of Little Narrows Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, lead CGIT and was active in Womens Missionary Society and the Ladies Aid Society.
Visitation will be at the Dennis Haverstock Funeral home in Whycocomagh, Tuesday, October 10, from 2-9pm. The funeral service will be held at Little Narrows Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, October 11, at 11am, Rev Ron Sharpe officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the CNIB, Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Little Narrows Presbyterian Church, or the charity of your choice.
“We are the children of the church. We work and play together; in trusting God to lead the way; in all we think or do or say.”
