It is with sadness that the family of Robert Mueller announces the death of their husband and father on January 30th, 2007.

Robert served as Minister of the River and Lakeside Pastoral Charge of the United Church of Canada, which includes churches in Orangedale, River Denys and Marble Mountain, from 1973 until his retirement in 1983. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Robert studied Chemical Engineering and Theology, and spent portions of his career teaching Mathematics in China, supporting community development in India, and serving churches in Ohio, Wisconsin and Illinois. During the 60s he headed the West Side Christian Parish, an urban-based ministry which advocated for civil rights alongside Rev. Martin Luther King. He and Betty then left the city behind and settled in their beloved Orangedale, where he enjoyed many additional pleasures of his life: gardening, swimming, and celebrating close friendships. During this period, he also helped to establish the Cape Breton L’Arche community. Robert is survived by his wife, Betty, his four children, Christine, Eric, Patricia, and Gary, brothers John and Conrad, three grandchildren and other beloved family members.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 4th, between 2-6 p.m. in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5th, from Orangedale United Church , with Rev. Janet Blois and Rev. Wim Kreeft officiating . Burial to take place in Malagawatch Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert may be made to the United Church of Canada’s Mission and Service Fund for World Development and Relief or Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
