Torrey, Osborne James "Ossie", age 56 - Manchester, Guysborough Co. Passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2015 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Ossie was born on October 25, 1958 in Brantford, Ont. a son of Lillian (McCall) Torrey and the late Roy Torrey. He worked as an auto body technician in Ontario and started a career as a Welder building rail cars at Trenton Works in 1995 until the plant closed.
Ossie was a quiet, loving, compassionate generous man with a passion for helping others and a love for the outdoors, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, dances, and house parties with his partner and friends. He loved long bike rides especially on bike rallies with the Port Shoreman Pirates. He had a passion for fixing cars; his attention to detail was exceptional. He was a perfectionist at anything he put his hand to.
Ossie is survived by his partner, Donalda Kelly, Antigonish; daughter, Loretta, grandson, Landon all of Hadleyville; his mother, Lillian (Borden), Boylston; sisters, Lois (Greg), Carol-Ann (Greg) all of Manchester; Linda (Wally), Eastside Harbour; Debbie, Manchester; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Roy.
A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Nova Scotia Cancer Center, Halifax. Also a special thank you to the PCU and Palliative Care team at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish; Dr. Gallivan and the Lodge That Gives, Halifax, you gave us a home away from home. Your compassionate care will never be forgotten. Thank You to the staff of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes for fulfilling Ossie’s wishes.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough and 11 a.m. – 1p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in Boylston United Church from where the Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial in Boylston United Church Cemetery.
