SMITH, Opal Bannameth - 90, Canso, died Saturday, February 19, 2005, in Glades Lodge, Halifax. Born in Half Island Cove, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Octavia (Delaney) Hendsbee. In her younger years, Opal managed her father's store, Robert Hendsbee's General Store. She was a member of Canso United Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters, Pearl (Roy) Pattison, Halifax; Eileen (Albert) Chisholm, Antigonish; Shirley (Geoff) Barrow, Surrey, B.C.; son, Bob (Joan) Churchill, Canning; sisters, Editha Gratto, Westlake Village, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Marshall; sisters, Ella Grover, Bella Digdon, Beryl Dobson, Ruby Sedgewick, Tena Hendsbee, and two in infancy; brother, Clayton. She was well-loved by all who came in contact with her and will be sadly missed by all.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Canso United Baptist Church, Rev. David Wheeler officiating, assisted by her grandson, Rev. Paul Pattison. Burial at a later date in Fourth Hill Cemetery.
