G. Danford "Ford" SMITH Obituary

SMITH, G. Danford "Ford" - 84, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2006, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Prescott, Ariz., U.S.A., he was the son of the late Charles and Annie Smith.


He started his working career at the Munitions Plant in New Glasgow after which he worked for the Nova Scotia Power Commission and Addison Electric. Upon moving to Port Hawkesbury, he managed the ESSO Service Station in Port Hastings for many years. Hired during the construction of the heavy water plant, he remained with them until the plant closed. Ford was a member of St. Mark's United Church, Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Port Hawkesbury, a member of the Curling Club, a supporter of the Creignish Hall and worked with the Children's Aid Society. He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Cameron).


He is survived by his sisters, Harriett Murphy, Mabou; Verna (Donnie) MacLean, Newfield, Me.; brother-in-law, Hawley (Betty Jane) Cameron, Mabou; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.


There will be no visitation by the family's request. Memorial service will be held Monday, July 24, at 2:30 p.m. in St. David's United Church, Port Hastings, Rev. Wilfred Pelley officiating. Committal will be in the church cemetery. Reception will follow in the church hall for family and friends to share memories. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ford's memory may be made to a charity of choice.
