Shears, Captain Douglas Jenney -87 Hureauville, formerly of Dartmouth/Halifax passed away peacefully Friday, October 13, 2006 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, with family members at his side. He was a son of the late John P. and Edna (Bonn) Shears. Captain Shears was a member of the Merchant Marines during World War 11, followed by a seafaring career with Canadian National Steamships, Imperial Oil, Irving Oil and Foundation Towing Co. of Halifax. He became a ships agent for I. H. Matthers in Halifax and was transferred to the Port Hawkesbury area in 1971 where he also worked for F. K. Warren Ltd. until his retirement. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and a true friend to many. He is survived by his wife Dorothy(Purchase)Shears, Hureauville; son Paul(Heike)and granddaughter Sheri, Cleveland, Rich. Co.; sister in law Gladys Purchase (Jeffrey) Toronto; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister Aileen Lodge and brother Jack. Visitation will be 7-9 today and 2-4 & 7-9 Tuesday with Legion Service at 7 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service 11a.m. Wednesday in St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury, Rev. Wilfred Pelley officiating, burial in Grantville Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
