SMITH, George James — 68, Port Hawkesbury, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 11, 2010, at home. Born in Grand Anse, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Arthur J. Smith and Hattie (Smith) Ferguson. George was a beloved husband, devoted father and proud grandfather. George worked for several years at the Nova Scotia Community College before retiring a few years ago. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, caring ways and his love of a Ford. He enjoyed going for drives with his wife and talking with his closest friend, Gary. George will be sadly missed by his wife of 34 years, Brenda (Keefe); sons, George (Vicki), Halifax; Jason, Halifax; granddaughters, Olivia, Chelsea and Hannah; sister, Jessie James, Glace Bay. He was predeceased by brother, Duncan. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's United Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Rev. Sheldon LeGrow officiating. Burial in Southbrook Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of George may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
