RICHARD, Hazel Maude - 84, Halfway Cove, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2007, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital with her husband, Wayne, by her side. Born in Dorts Cove, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Alice Maude (Dort) Dort. Surviving are her husband, Wayne George, Halfway Cove; sisters, Ruby Luddington, Stellarton; Minnie (Luke) Jamieson, Dorts Cove; Rita (Gary) MacGuire, Bedford; Mable Bond, Hortons Cove; Sylvia (Ves) Jamieson, Peas Brook; stepchildren, Enos Richard (Anita), Canso; Dot (Shirl) Bennett, Canso; Sharon (Kathy) Richard, Truro; Shirley (Elliott) Bouchie, Canso; Billy (Brenda) Richard, Canso; Jim (Cathy) Richard, Canso; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, John Richard; brothers, Fred, Wilbur, and Aubrey; sister, Vidy. Hazel worked as a nursing assistant at the Hazel Hill Nursing Home. She was a cook at Guysborough Memorial Hospital and Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso, for 24 years. She was a member of the Shamrock Club, Canso, and Bayview Seniors Club in Boylston. Hazel was a volunteer for both the diabetes and cancer societies for several years. Hazel had a great passion for knitting that was shared with both family and friends that she held close to her heart. She also enjoyed cooking and a good game of cards, but most of all, she enjoyed the company of both family and friends. Her door was always open. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Wayne, and her many family and friends.
Visitation will be held today from 2-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. James Anglican Church, Halfway Cove, with Rev. Tory Byrne officiating. Burial in St. James Anglican Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Guysborough Memorial Hospital or St. James Anglican Church.
